Kiama, it’s a place well known for it’s famous blow hole, rich history, beautiful beaches and community. If you look further beyond the horizon and drive past Kiama you will end up at a little town called Berry just 25 minutes away and this is where our adventure begins.

Now getting to this place is a bit tricky and signs are very limited so I urge you to pay attention, as there are probably only 1 or 2 signs on the way. It’s pretty much on the way to Kangaroo Valley and there are also some pot holes on the way so you have been warned!

After driving up and down we finally found the start of our hiking adventure.

IMG_1493
You will walk through some dense bush but the trail is pretty clear and easy.

IMG_1494
I would recommend hiking boots for this trail, as some parts are pretty muddy. Especially if the trail has had some rain the day before.

Looks like a big storm passed through here recently and ripped this tree right out of its roots.

IMG_1505
We stumbled upon some signs to tell us we were on the right track. Just a quick note, the signs say that the trail is 2.5 hours but really it’s not. You can smash it in 1 hour or less if you have a good pace.

We were getting higher and higher so we stopped a few times just to enjoy the view and its surroundings.

IMG_1514
We had some obstacles along the way but nothing we couldn’t handle.

IMG_1519
The trail started to get even narrower and the environment drastically changes, you will notice this as you do the hike.

IMG_1515
This is what I meant when the environment changed. From this..

To this.

IMG_1524
Some plants stood out that I really liked, like this one.

IMG_1522
Another stop to enjoy the beautiful view.

IMG_1526

Probably my favourite part of the trail.

IMG_1528
We finally made it to the top and the views were breathtaking.

IMG_1561
You will notice different types of rock formations at the top. They look pretty cool, some of them act like tables so you can have a nice lunch and place your stuff on them.

IMG_1529
One word I could use to describe this view would be stunning.

IMG_1532
This side would be my favourite view, where you can see the ocean meeting the mainland.

Probably my favourite pair of shoes, these Oboz hiking shoes are so comfy and can handle all sorts of terrain plus they’re waterproof!

Barren Grounds was probably one of the easiest trails we have done so far but getting to the top is something you won’t see anywhere else.. which made the hike that much more rewarding. I would definitely recommend this hike for people that love to drive and are looking for a easy hike with magnificent views to end the day.
